When to bring me in

You have a business to build.
And decisions to make.

Maybe you are preparing to launch. Maybe the business has grown, but the product, brand, and sales no longer feel connected. Or a manufacturing problem is taking more attention than it should.

You may have a team, an agency, and a factory already. Sometimes the missing piece is someone experienced who can look across the business, ask useful questions, and help you decide where to focus.

Bring the situation in front of you. We will work out whether I can help and what a sensible engagement would look like.

Where we can work together

The decisions are connected.
We look at them together.

Open an area to see the kinds of questions we can work through. Your engagement is built around the priorities we agree on.

01Product & Opportunity+
  • Assess a new product idea and the problem it is intended to solve.
  • Review features, differentiation, product range, and what deserves development.
  • Identify assumptions to test before committing more time or money.
  • Work through product improvements, extensions, and the path from concept to market.
02Customer & Market+
  • Define who the product or business serves and why they would choose it.
  • Review customer feedback, alternatives, and the questions still unanswered.
  • Explore market entry, positioning, and the fit between the offer and its intended customer.
  • Plan practical customer conversations and small tests to inform the next decision.
03Brand & Positioning+
  • Clarify what the business stands for and the promise it makes.
  • Review the connection between product, positioning, pricing, and customer experience.
  • Assess messaging, packaging direction, and differentiation.
  • Shape a useful brief when the project needs a designer, agency, or other specialist.
04Manufacturing & Supply Chain+
  • Review the manufacturing path, supplier questions, and production priorities.
  • Connect product requirements with cost, quality, quantities, and timing.
  • Identify where engineering, testing, inspection, or logistics input is needed.
  • Scope a separate sourcing assignment when the work calls for supplier searches, quote comparisons, or Factory Visits.
05Sales, Pricing & Distribution+
  • Review how the business reaches customers and which channels fit.
  • Work through pricing assumptions, product costs, margins, and channel requirements.
  • Assess retail, wholesale, direct sales, distribution, and partnership opportunities.
  • Identify the information needed to make a better commercial decision.
06Growth, Team & Priorities+
  • Decide what needs attention now and what can wait.
  • Evaluate a new opportunity against the business, available resources, and priorities.
  • Clarify ownership of next steps and where outside support may help.
  • Review progress, question assumptions, and adjust the plan as the situation changes.
Fractional Strategic Advising

An experienced advisor.
Regular involvement.

Have me involved as the business moves forward. We agree on a regular schedule and the questions, projects, or decisions where my experience can be useful.

That can include preparation before our conversations, reviewing agreed materials, direct feedback, and following up on the next steps. Meeting frequency, access between meetings, and any hands-on work are defined in the proposal.

You and your team run the business. My role is to bring perspective, challenge assumptions, and help you make informed decisions.

Discuss Ongoing Advising
How we start

Understand the situation.
Agree on the work.

01

A fit conversation

Share a little context, then arrange a free 20-minute conversation about your business and whether I can help.

02

A clear proposal

We define priorities, responsibilities, deliverables, meeting frequency, duration, and fees before work begins.

03

Work and review

We work through the agreed priorities, identify next steps, and review what has changed as the business moves forward.

A focused assignment

One decision may need
more attention.

You do not need an ongoing engagement to get started. A defined project may be the right fit for a product assessment, manufacturing question, positioning review, or commercial opportunity.

We agree on the question to resolve, the information needed, the work involved, and what you will receive. If the project points to a broader need, we can discuss that after the initial work.

Experience that connects the pieces

I have been on
your side of the table.

I founded Hydro Flask and have spent more than three decades building businesses and physical products.

The useful part of that experience reaches beyond the bottle: product development, manufacturing, sourcing, brand, sales, distribution, mistakes, growth, and making decisions without a perfect playbook.

I bring that experience to the business you are building. You get direct feedback, thoughtful questions, and a practical perspective on what comes next.

Good questions

Before we get started.

What does fractional strategic advising mean?+

Ongoing, part-time involvement as your advisor. We agree on priorities, meeting frequency, availability, and responsibilities. You get regular access to my perspective without hiring a full-time executive.

What would we actually do together?+

Start with the business and the decisions in front of you. Depending on the scope, we might review a product plan, challenge pricing assumptions, assess a manufacturing issue, evaluate a growth opportunity, or work through priorities. We agree on the work and what you should receive before starting.

Is this only for consumer-product companies?+

Physical products, brands, and manufacturing are central to my experience. If your challenge sits elsewhere, tell me about it. The first conversation helps us establish whether my background is a useful fit.

Can you help with an early idea?+

Yes. The first useful assignment may be assessing the opportunity, understanding the intended customer, and identifying what needs testing before spending money on development or production.

Will I work directly with Travis?+

Yes. You work directly with me for the agreed advisory work. If the project needs engineering, accounting, legal advice, design, or another specialty, we identify the appropriate providers and agree on their role separately.

How much does it cost?+

Fees depend on the scope, level of involvement, and duration. After we understand what you need, I provide a proposal with responsibilities, deliverables, and fees for you to review.

What happens in the free 20-minute conversation?+

We discuss your business, what you need help with, and whether working together makes sense. If there is a useful fit, we discuss a next step. The form on Let’s Talk gives us a little context before arranging the conversation.
